The Art Route Gallery, in collaboration with practicing artists, launched its Art Workshop Series with a two-day intensive workshop on Experimental Calligraphy led by the renowned contemporary calligrapher, Inku Kumar, Founder of CalliArt. With a BFA and MFA in Applied Arts from the College of Art, Delhi, Inku Kumar is celebrated for his innovative approach to calligraphy, blending traditional penmanship with modern design sensibilities.
This workshop offered participants a unique opportunity to dive into the world of Experimental Calligraphy—a style that goes beyond traditional boundaries by incorporating artistic elements, textures, and creative letter arrangements. Inku Kumar’s practice explores typography, lettering, and design in new ways, and his work has attracted esteemed clients like Cartier, Mont Blanc, Project Eve by Reliance, L’Oréal, and Wizcraft.
Over the course of two days, participants were introduced to unconventional calligraphic styles and techniques that challenge the norms of standard calligraphy. They experimented with diverse materials and innovative techniques under the guidance of Inku Kumar, who emphasized the fusion of typography with contemporary art forms. The workshop was crafted to be beginner-friendly, welcoming art enthusiasts from various backgrounds to learn and explore calligraphy in a refreshing and experimental format.
The sessions were not only instructional but also highly engaging, providing a platform for participants to express their creativity and reimagine calligraphy as an art form. Feedback from the participants highlighted the workshop’s uniqueness in combining hands-on practice with an exploration of calligraphy’s evolving landscape.
